How to Download Snapchat Videos: Every Method by Content Type
The right method depends entirely on whose video it is. A decision guide covering your own snaps, Memories, public posts, screen recording and silent files.
Nearly every guide on this topic fails the same way: it picks one method and presents it as the answer. But “download a Snapchat video” describes five different situations, and the right approach depends entirely on whose video it is and where it currently lives.
Start by identifying which one you are in.

Your own video, before you send it
The easiest case, and the one most people skip past.
After recording, tap the download arrow on the editing screen before sending. Depending on your Memories settings the clip goes to Memories, your camera roll, or both.
Check that setting once and forget about it: Settings → Memories lets you choose where saves land. Choosing both costs storage but means every clip you keep exists locally as well as on Snapchat’s servers.
Do this and you keep the highest-quality version that will ever exist. Everything downstream is a copy of a copy.
Your own video, already in Memories
Memories feels like phone storage but lives on Snapchat’s servers, so pulling clips out is worth doing deliberately.
For a handful of clips: open Memories, press and hold to select, then Export and save to your camera roll. Keep batches small — large selections tend to stall.

One expectation to set: a clip in Memories was already compressed when it was sent. Exporting returns exactly what Snapchat holds, which is a generation below your original recording. Nothing recovers that difference after the fact.
Someone else’s public video
This covers Spotlight posts, Stories on public creator profiles, and Highlight reels — content Snapchat publishes to the open web as ordinary pages.
Because those pages are public, the media on them can be read without any account:
- In Snapchat, open the post and tap share → Copy Link. On desktop, copy the URL from the address bar.

Someone else’s private video
There is no method here, and it is worth being blunt about why.
Private Stories, Friend Stories, direct snaps, group chats and My Eyes Only require an authenticated account. No browser tool reaches them. Anything advertising otherwise is either fabricating the claim or intends to use the credentials you hand over — and third-party clients get accounts permanently banned.
Screen recording, and when it makes sense
Screen recording is the universal fallback: it works on anything you can see. It is also the worst option available, for three reasons.
Quality. You capture your screen rather than the source file, inheriting your device’s resolution, frame rate and a second round of compression.
Interface. Timestamps, buttons and progress bars end up baked into the video.
Notifications. For snaps in chat, screenshots trigger a notification, and Story screenshots are flagged in the poster’s viewer list. Do not assume recording is invisible — behaviour has shifted between app versions before.
Use it when nothing else applies. Prefer the source file whenever one is reachable.
Why your video has no sound
This one generates a lot of confused searches, so here is the actual cause.
Snapchat sometimes stores a post’s picture and its audio as two separate files. A tool that grabs only the first hands you a silent video and no explanation. Nothing is broken and nothing is missing — the sound is simply in the other file.

What resolution to expect
Snapchat is a vertical-video platform, and posts are commonly around 540×960. Some carry a larger rendition; many do not.
Rather than advertising a figure, we show you what a given post really holds. If a site guarantees 4K Snapchat downloads, it is either upscaling — which invents detail instead of recovering it — or simply making the number up.
Troubleshooting
“No media found.” The link is probably to a private account, or the snap expired. Story snaps generally clear within about 24 hours.
Download saved nothing on iPhone. Check Safari’s downloads, then move the file into Photos or Files via the share sheet.
Can’t find it on Android. Look in the Downloads folder; gallery apps sometimes take a few minutes to index new files.
Rate-limited. Snapchat occasionally throttles rapid requests. Waiting a minute usually clears it.
A previously working link stopped. Almost always expiry rather than a broken tool. Highlights last far longer than Story snaps.
Before you save someone else’s work
Reachable is not the same as unrestricted. Keep other people’s clips for personal viewing, ask before reposting, and never present someone’s video as your own. Snapchat’s Terms of Service and each creator’s rights apply just as much once the file is on your device.
